About This GameA highschool gang leader Ringo Ishikawa trying to live through his last autumn before graduation. With his best friends. You should play it if: 1) You're fond of good stories with strong dialogues (especially about growing up) 2) You're a fight games enthusiast (you'll get your hands on some unique brawl mechanic and I promise you'll be satisfied) 3) You're into some yakuza-delinquent aesthetics Basically, the game is an existential open world beat'em up with some school sim elements. It has a little of everything: a town to explore, day-night cycle, npc on their schedule, battle grinding, school grinding, mini-games (ping-pong, billiard, video-poker, video-game console with one game...) and so on. But the main thing is the story I'm trying to tell. And I designed the game to make you feel this story. So it's not about rival gangs, or taking over turfs, or anything. You just live there and feel. And that's all. a09c17d780

Excellent game. Everything, that i've been missing in river city ransom. Reminds me of Takashi Miike's movie Crows Zero, which is also a good thing. Well done. And the music, of course. Music makes it great. quot;A meandering mess" isn't how I thought I'd describe the game I easily saw as my 2018 GOTY. When I first discovered The friends of Ringo Ishikawa, it seemed to have the makings of being the new River City Ransom, only with a more complex story and plot; but just like life and this game, it throws a few unwanted curveballs. +Great music The Con's -Bad mini games. A chill, cool game that disguises itself as a beat-em up, when in reality it's a somber tale of growing up and failing to meet society's expectations for adulthood. I am enjoying it, however it's bare-bones approach to teaching you game mechanics is frustrating. Hopefully, the developer can add an in-game wiki of sorts, maybe a questlog, and a world map. But if you don't mind taking your time, you'll find a rewarding, meditative experience that will keep you playing for hours.. From the first ten minutes this game immediately became a 2018 GOTY contender for me. The graphics and sound -- and most especially the awesome soundtrack -- are hugely nostalgic without (in my opinion) being held back by the unkempt trappings of the past. When the game drops you into a sleepy little town with all kinds of amazing touches it does so without a map and experiencing everything is a mix of pleasant frustration and happy realisation. The map is in no way scary enough to put you off and after only an hour playing I figured out most of it. This leaves you with two very tightly related gameplay loops: the day-to-day life of Ringo as a student with the potential for a part-time job at the video store and the day-to-day life of Ringo as a delinquent with his hands in his pockets meeting up with his gang to beat the snot out of groups in different uniforms. There are also some light RPG elements with levelling up to do the use of actions e.g punches, kicks, throws and (I think) blocking them (or maybe receiving dmg from them). You can also learn new moves. The dialogue is great -- I'm thinking of something like a Japanese 'The Warriors', the characters are great, the story moves along at what is starting off as a lovely pace and this is my most favourite game in this year's Summer Steam Sale... and that's in a field of stiff competition. If you like 16-bit brawlers and might enjoy a side-scrolling life simulator that might be a bit like Shenmue (which I ain't never played) then GET THIS NOW. If you think you might like these things... GET THIS NOW. If you don't think you might like these things... IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY JUST GET THIS NOW ANYWAY. This game is worth ten 'get this now's out of ten.. This is maybe the most meaningful gaming experience I've had. Perfectly captures the melancholy and aimlessness one may feel during the final days of high school. This is a game about the little moments in life, and it should be commended for its authenticity. The developer avoids any sort of fan service in favour of an intimate and voyeuristic piece. Also, it's just an added bonus that the fighting mechanics are so fun. I enjoy the minimalism, and the fact that very little is explained. It is perfectly appropriate that Ringo's family never appears in the game. Just a question for the floor, does the door to Ringo's room leads to where his parents are, or do you think he lives alone? I personally think he lives with his parents, but that they are more or less absent from his life.. May 2019: Chances are you are seeing commercials of this for the switch, and thinking "Wow this looks amazing! I hope it's on Steam!". And it is. This is a sim game. Where you level your stats, build a character and try and meet social goals. The pixel art is fantastic, the music is excellent. The English translation is great. Without spoilers, the goal of this game is a build-up to a message about you the player and Ringo the character. The ending may be frustrating but it is, in my opinion a good one. But due to the amount of time and effort put required for getting there, combined with the many, many bugs this game has in it still, I would not recommend this game. I must also add that there is little documentation out there about this game. If you want to to look up "How do i do this..." there is a strong chance nothing will be available for it. Buy at your own discretion.
